The Presidential Campaign Council of the African Democratic Congress is to be inaugurated today (Friday) by the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, formally setting the campaign machinery in motion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration is scheduled for 4 pm at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where major leaders of the party and candidates seeking elective positions on the ADC platform are expected to gather.

In a statement released on Thursday by Kola Ologbondiyan, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Publicity, it was stated that a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections would be marked by the ceremony. Attendance is expected from all ADC leaders, governorship candidates, National Assembly candidates, and state House of Assembly candidates.

According to Ologbondiyan, a platform will be provided by the inauguration for the formal activation of the presidential campaign structure as preparations for the nationwide campaign begin. It was noted by him that the stage is formally set for the ADC presidential campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Preparations for the 2027 elections are being intensified by political parties, with the ADC being positioned as one of the major opposition platforms seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress. In recent months, efforts have been stepped up by the party to build its structures across the country and coordinate campaign activities ahead of the polls.

The ADC presidential ticket is held by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, by whose emergence the party has been placed at the centre of ongoing efforts by opposition politicians to consolidate forces ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Consequently, the party’s presidential campaign structure is expected to be brought into a more coordinated operational phase by the inauguration of the PCC, with party leaders and candidates expected to work towards a common campaign message.

An opportunity is also expected to be provided by the Friday ceremony for priorities and direction to be outlined by the party leadership as the election season gathers momentum. Full participation in the inauguration was urged upon party leaders and candidates by Ologbondiyan. It was noted by him that the importance of unity and coordination among various levels of the campaign structure would be underscored by the gathering as voters across the country are prepared to be reached with the party's message.

Abia lawmaker Austin Akobundu had earlier been named as the Director General of what was described by Atiku as a lean presidential campaign council.
